Build a flat paper bridge between two cups and see how few coins it holds. Then fold the paper into a fan or arch and try again.

Make triangles and squares out of straws and pins — push on each and feel which shape refuses to wobble.

Go on a 'force hunt' around your home and label things being squeezed (compression) vs stretched (tension).
